Scholarship Opportunity

Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. is pleased to announce its 2021-2022 scholarship for three high school seniors enrolled in the San Francisco Unified School District. The scholarship is offered in the amount of $5,000 annually, for up to four years, to each of these three students while they attend either a two- or four-year program at a community college or a college/university of their choice to study one of the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields. Applicants will need to complete this application form and submit a school transcript, an essay, and a project from their student portfolio.

Maryland Applicants

The scholarship program is offered to students enrolling in the two-year biopharma program at The Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, MD.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a currently enrolled high school senior within the San Francisco Unified School District.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Intend to declare, or have declared, a major in one of the STEM fields.

Scholarship recipients must declare their major in one of the STEM fields within the first year of enrollment at a community college of their choice or the first two years at a college/university of their choice.

 
Required Materials for Application
  • Completed application form
  • Student Project
  • Please submit an assignment or project that is related to STEM that you have completed within your junior or senior year of high school and demonstrates a body of work you are proud of. Examples of acceptable projects include, but are not limited to, lab reports, scientific papers, research papers, and presentations. Assignments/projects completed by the applicant solely are preferred.
  • Reflection - Student Project
  • Please write a paragraph (300 words or less) about why you are proud of the STEM project or assignment you have chosen to submit.
  • If you have submitted a group project, please describe your role in the group project.
  • School Transcript
  • A current, unofficial transcript is sufficient.
  • Essay​ (500–1,000 words) that addresses the following prompts:
  • What area of STEM are you interested and/or passionate about, and why?
  • What interests you about the major and/or program you are planning on pursuing?
  • What has inspired you to pursue a higher education in STEM?
  • FAFSA Student Aid Report
  • Your Student Aid Report may come from FAFSA or Dream Act
  • Documentation must display your name, academic year, and established EFC (Expected Family Contribution)

Deadline:​ The deadline for submission is Monday, April 12, 2021.
Scholarship recipients will be notified on Friday, April 23, 2021, and will be required to attend a virtual awards ceremony on Monday, May 3, 2021.
